We were so excited for our first field trip! We went Showalter's Apple Orchard in Timberville. After discussing the life cycle of an apple tree, we went out to explore the life cycle in action! We had so much fun riding the wagon, picking our own mini-pumpkin, watching the farmers clean and sort the apples, see how apple cider is made, pick our own apple and have some apple cider. Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Showalter for an awesome morning!
We were able to pick some pumpkins while we were there! Oh, happy day!!
Our second field trip was to Crossroads Heritage Farm. We took a trip back in time. Our very, very chilly morning included a visit to the blacksmith, a one room schoolhouse, the kitchen (and churning butter), the parlor (and playing piano), and the wash house (and doing laundry). We also got to play old timey games inside and outside and help weave a basket. Everyone was ready for a nap after our morning of fun and work :)
Our third field trip brought us to the JMU Arboretum in the morning. We went on a nature walk and collected leaves, acorns, sticks, and even rocks for our fall collage in our classroom. It was another brisk, chilly field trip, but we were very excited for the experience.
