Word Wall Words
WORD WALL WORDS or Sight words, often also called high frequency sight words, are commonly used words that young children are encouraged to memorize. They can automatically recognize these words in print without having to use any strategies to decode. Word wall words or sight words account for a large percentage (up to 75%) of the words used in beginning children's print materials.
We add word wall words to our classroom word wall two or three at a time and then work with them A LOT during the week. They get stapled underneath their beginning letter. For example, "and" goes under 'A' and "for" goes under 'f'. We make books, sing songs, write sentences, play games, and read flashcards to highlight those words.
Here are our words on the word wall so far this year! I've put them here in a slideshow so that you can have online flashcards to use at home! I'll add more as we put each word on our word wall in the back of our classroom. Thanks for practicing at home.
